It's such an amazing piece, Origin of the World (or OofW as I guess it would be in fandom?) You can really see how much abstract art revolves around that geometry. And prehistoric art. Gee I should write those little placards, except I hate them even more than your friend does. At the Tate Britain they are huge and white with a giant black sans serif font and they basically say, "So, you're enjoying this nice painting of a gown, are you? Do you realize this gown was made by EXPLOITATION AND COLONIALISM!!?" It's like going around a museum with an obnoxious, precocious sixteen year old who's just discovered their Social Consciousness. They particularly have it in for Stubbs. I actually prefer the audio tours because you can turn them off. Sorry, I've been wanting to complain about the Tate signage to someone for ages..
