Not that this is terribly enlightening, but I remember being completely taken by surprise when I went to a booksigning/reading by Kazuo Ishiguro - in person, he was so damn funny and, how to say it? well-adjusted, maybe. Not that I've read everything the man has written, but what I have read is *so depressing*.
