Yeah, I think B_D is right about a big drawback to Annie Hall is you're seeing Woody Allen's view of things, and his gender politics leave much to be desired.

Streisand and Redford WERE both so annoying in the movie! I couldn't figure out why that movie seemed to have this reputation as a tear-jerker--they do break up in the end and they seem to have a kid. I just felt sorry for a kid being raised by someone so humorless and shrill, but Dad was just bland and smug, as you say.

I read an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow once in New York Magazine that completely turned me off to her. It's sad how clearly I remember that article--before that I was neutral. It was the interviewer who was the most annoying thing about it really--I hated that interviewer. But now I can't see her without thinking of that awful interview!

I thought it was cute that Alan Cummings and Jennifer Jason Leigh wrote the movie together but I had much the same reaction to it you did. It's just, yeah, the actors doing their little mannerisms and being themselves. I was at this tribute to JJL and a lot of the cast was there (Alan Cummings couldn't come but sent a video greeting that was very funny iirc). I didn't talk to Jane Adams but she was there--and high as a kite! Even I could tell.:-) I'm very fond of Kevin Kline and Phoeobe Cates' kid--I used to work at this store where they were customers and that's one of the reason I like PC: her kids were well-behaved.:-)

The dog does have fans--it's so funny watching my roommate worry about this. She's like, "I haven't walked her by Robert Stuart or French Roast yet. The Mexican restaurant waitress will be so upset! The bouncer at the club will be shocked!"
