If fic is supposed to be a communication when you do it socially, how far can you honestly tell people what they're allowed to say?

Another excellent point! I completely agree on fanfic as a social activity, but commenting is also a social activity. Why is theirs supposed to be sacred just because it's fiction? (I suppose this ties in with what cathexys said about non-writers being sort of second-class fans...)
