I think it's an interesting issue, especially when considering the teachers. Snape is a malicious teacher. Hagrid is a careless one. Their interactions with pupils both inside and outside their lessons have dangerous effects, regardless of their intentions, and yet it's bitterly argued over as to who is 'worse', and their presentation in the text varies wildly.
