Happy New President Day!

I have nothing intelligent to say about this day, but it seemed like I should mark it. I had no hot water or heat this morning so my hair was full of soap all day--which was bad, but then Obama got sworn in, which was good! They tried to stream the video on the big screen in the conference room at work but it kept freezing so most of us watched it on the little TV crowded into the kitchenette.

But all day I felt like I was in a movie that took place in 2008 on the day Obama was inaugurated. You know how when you watch historical movies they'll often have radios and TV shows and newspapers in the background that set you in time? That's what it felt like, because I kept walking past so many TV sets and radios that were talking about Obama--in the office, in the dentist's office, in the supermarket. I kept wondering what kind of movie it was. I decided it was a murder mystery. I wasn't the detective, but I was some interesting character that was important to the case.:-D

Love the thought on it being like a movie (I often look at my life as being like one long sitcom so....yeah....I can see it being like that with all the Obama talk today.)

I am just so overwhelmed that we are done with Bush and Cheney. I think back to the way (particularly 2002-2004) that they tried to trample dissent, the way they tried to redefine morality on things like torture...I'm just glad we're DONE with that.

(Tonight found on my LJ friends list that at least one friend was railing about how evil Obama was and what a disastrous day this was, etc. Hard to get my mind around how someone could feel that way but....at least I feel like Obama respects those people too--what with having dinner with George Will and the like. Can you imagine Bush sitting down to dinner with Michael Moore or Keith Olbermann?)

I'm surprised by the evil!Obama stuff too. Of course I know there are plenty of people who don't like him and disagree with him perfectly rationally, but the idea that he's actively evil is a little creepy!

As far as the significance of the day goes, I thought Stephen Colbert put it best:

"What an historic moment. They said this day would never come, but here we are, defying the odds and inspiring a world—because today is my 500th show! Woooooooo!"

LOL! I probably was the killer, yeah. That's a recurring theme in my dreams too, where I've always committed some crime and am hoping not to get caught. I've done everything from bank robbery to murder there.

I could see you as the key witness, given that you're naturally pretty observant about people and what they're doing. Of course you'd have to go into witness protection, but you'd have to break out of that to make sure that the prosecution found out that one vital detail that you've only just remembered...

I missed the whole inauguration thing, though the edited highlights we saw on TV this morning were suitably impressive.

You'll probably end up having flash backs about it every time you use that shampoo.

If yesterday were a movie for me w/r/t the inauguration, it would have been Scorsese's After Hours – constant frustration and the sense of just being on the edge of something yet missing it completely, mixed with insane commentary from & interactions with total strangers.

Oh, I know exactly the feeling! For one thing in movies a black president always means it's The Future. And there's something almost eerily cinematic about Obama-- after he took the oath part of me was thinking he should rip off his face and proclaim the Dawn of the Age of the Lizard People or something. Gotta be better than this age.

In the Inauguration Movie I'm a brief cutaway to cheering shots around the world, with Big Ben behind me. :D
