Yeah, it's like...I can't understand telling somebody not to be too hard on another person so you have perspective, but I usually do take fandom seriously. I mean, I try not to get really angry at real person over it, either somebody involved in making the canon or somebody who disagrees with me, but the whole trick of fandom is taking it not seriously while taking it very seriously. What's not serious about talking about what's important to you?

Maybe the trouble is more when people make it all about *themselves* rather than the ideas...? It's just when people talk about not taking things seriously it always seems like they want to say, "Hey, here's fandom! We like this thing! Here it is--OMG DON'T TOUCH IT!! Let's just all stand across the room and say we like it without looking at it too closely."
