sistermagpie: WWSMD? (Nun)
( Jan. 13th, 2012 11:59 am)
So everybody is doing this meme, and I got mine from [personal profile] donnaimmaculata:

Pick up the nearest book to you. Turn to page 45. The first sentence describes your sex life in 2012.

My nearest books are all on my Nook. I was reading two this morning. Page 45 for one is unfortunately an endnote. Surely that doesn't count? But if it did the one included phrase would be: "personal communication."

Not bad, I guess. Though if I skipped the endnotes and went to the beginning of the next chapter the first sentence would be: "Is a pen a metaphorical penis?" which offers a lot of possibilities, especially on livejournal!

Page 45 on the other book starts with: "Oui, oui, disait Grand en descendant les escaliers derriere le docteur."

The opening "Yes, yes" could bode well. Unfortunately the guy saying it is following another man down a flight of stairs, so I can't help but feeling like they're leaving me in my room while the two of them go off together. Coupled with the metaphorical penis line it's beginning to seem like my entire sex life for 2012 will be slashfic.

Just for one more I'll grab the book I finished yesterday. They're all right next to each other on the screen after all! That would be: "But it won't work if you don't believe it will, you know that."

Now that's intriguing. Intriguing and probably good advice.

Though not so much as the last possible sentence, coming from the book I finished right before that one: "His grin and his confident manner cowed everybody at the table but me and they stopped talking and made a to-do about passing him things, like he was somebody."

So I might keep a lookout for that guy!

Bonus meme: Can anybody guess any of the books?

Any time I go away I wind up having a hard time getting back into posting. But this is long even for me! I blame LJ's troubles too, though. I think I was going to post a couple of things and wound up getting frustrated.

Anyway! To keep from looking too much like an abandoned lj, I figured a meme would be helpful! I gakked this from [livejournal.com profile] ava_jamison:

Name me a character! I will tell you:

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I don't know if I have opinions like this for all characters, but I could give it a shot!

Wow there are scary things happening all over the world all at once right now. And I'm removed enough from all of them that I can focus on a meme that [livejournal.com profile] jlh tagged me with:

What's the first song you truly remember loving? (Don't worry if it's a little embarrassing; you were just a kid!) Then tag as many friends as you like to do the meme as well!

Hard to remember, but ones I recall in no particular order... This got complicated so yes, I managed to make even this simple meme tl;dr. )

Oops, I forgot to tag anybody. I know it's a cop-out but I hope anybody who finds this idea fun does it!

By [livejournal.com profile] schmevil!

List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
Tag seven people to do the same.
Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it." (I love the way memes always come with that rule now, because it always sounds like something Hermione Granger would add--do it right!)

Tagging: Jlh, ali_wildgoose, ava_jamison, samaranth, dorrie6, horridporrid, ptyx. Do iiiiiiiiit.

1. I regularly do a list of "100 tolerations" that somebody told me about once. You list 100 things you're tolerating, from big (too-small salary, for instance) to small (lost my favorite pen). Then you try to cross off as many as possible. Yesterday I got rid of the one extra key on my keychain that fit nothing. Yeah!!!

2. At daycamp when I was in first grade they gave out awards to everyone like "best athlete" or "best swimmer" or "funniest laugh." I was really quiet back then and even I couldn't imagine what they'd come up with for me (pickiest eater?). I got...most cooperative camper. To this day I consider it the lamest award ever. It's the "sometimes we forget she exists" award.

3. My senior year in high school, however, I was voted class clown in the yearbook.

4. I share a cousin with Robert Downey Jr.

5. I went to an intense meditation retreat where I spent 10 days not speaking, reading or writing, with minimal food. It was kind of awesome.

6. Based on a random lie from a co-worker, a woman at work spent over a year believing I was a nun from reeeeally progressive convent.

7. I have never tasted coffee.

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] jlh who asked me 5 questions.

  1. Leave me a comment saying "Fuck Yeah 2010." (Because let's face it, 2009 pretty much sucked.)

  2. I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity.

  3. Update your journal with the answers to the questions.

  4. Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions!

I'm kind of afraid of that last part. I doubt my ability to come up with good questions!

Here were my questions )

[livejournal.com profile] jlh has designated this "Let's Reclaim Some Shit Day."

Iow: What are the things that people frequently rant about that you actually rather like? ,

She started with first person narration (which is something I tend to think I don't like before I remember that plenty of books and stories I love are written in it), established relationship stories (I HATE the attitude on TV now, especially, where as soon as a couple is together people start thinking they need to break up or else it's not interesting--wtf?) and sitcoms (my version of comfort food! Yay!).

The idea is to just say the things you like, when you've heard people argue that they suck or have just dismissed them, hopefully not as an inspiration for snarking about why you shouldn't like it.

So I tried to think of some... )

OMG, another movie meme! I have seen practically everything in the Academy Awards Best Picture list at this point, except for 3 or 4. I have a feeling I'll do terribly on this one, which are the top-grossing movies of all time. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] jlh.

From [livejournal.com profile] jlh though apparently it's making the rounds:

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Some people have come up with some creative ones. And I will answer them all in a new post.

Because I am sure you are all dying to know! Or more like I am dying to know because I have no clue what you will ask. I can't promise I won't dither about them all endlessly, though.

Had to do this quiz. )

I think I lost a week somewhere lj-wise. Don't know how that happened. I have had a week of new experiences, which is always good. I went to a Juilliard concert, which I didn't know they had. Then tried a new tea at Alice's Teacup--Monk's blend. Nice and strong.

Finally, last night I went to "My Name is a Blackbird," a one-woman improvised dance piece, which was awesome. Then went out with the one woman of the piece and others, which was cool. There was good bar food. Good by my standards, that is, which I always appreciate. I’m not sure if anybody got a chance to taste the tater tots I was shoveling them in so fast.

I've been eyeing Dreamwidth with interest and hoping to remember to friend people who are there if I ever get over there. But it has got me thinking about a lot of things I've been reading about all these new social sites. We had this meeting at work about Twitter where it was explained to us that Twitter is all about finding people with social credit, proved by their many followers etc. The whole thing completely confuses me, this whole subset of internet users that use Facebook status and Twitter as incredibly important chances to fail or succeed at being witty and cool.

It makes me feel like the internet has for so long been associated with geeks and the socially inept (whether that's true or not, that's the stereotype) and now we're seeing the results of years of desperate brainstorming to find a way to make it a place where "popular people" can reign supreme again. Cutting because it looks like I might have more to say about this after all. )
From [livejournal.com profile] jlh:

—Give me a marry/shag/cliff trio
—I'll post pics and my answer
—I'll give you a marry/shag/cliff trio
—Then you can do the same!

I hope I'll be able to work pictures, at least. I will give it a shot! I've never done one of these...

I have an actual thing to say that I may post later, but I got tagged for the handwriting meme by [livejournal.com profile] etrangere so I will put that off and put up two memes. Yes, I've now gotten to the point where I'm putting off things I do to procrastinate.

My handwriting and perception personality image, let me show them to you. )
