I'm going to try to put down some complicated rumination on the finales of SUPERNATURAL and LOST here--with spoilers for both. Watching the The End finale last night it reminded me of Swan Song. In the end I feel like Swan Song was more successful as a narrative in delivering what it promised.

I apologize for how long this is. It was probably a bad idea to try to talk about two such important finales in one post, but they seemed really ripe for comparison.

Okay, I've kept thinking about that episode of Lost since last night because it was bugging me I couldn't get a handle on it. Obviously this is about a pattern Charlie has in his life that he's got to confront or fix or break out of, but I couldn't figure out what it was *about* exactly. But this morning I had some ideas in the shower that made the ep a lot more interesting, especially with regards to Eko and Locke. )

I liked the episode overall, but I was thinking about something that bothered me in it, which made me think about a couple of characters involved. Major spoilers for LOST last night--anybody who's really avoiding spoilers and gets the episodes late, this is a major spoiler. )

So I was watching Lost last night and something struck me about the show’s female characters (Kate, Shannon, Sun and Claire). Spoilers for 11/12 episode within. )

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] unknownwisdom--and to [livejournal.com profile] froda_baggins and [livejournal.com profile] jewelsong tomorrow!

And of course, happy birthday to Frodo and Bilbo. The two most excellent hobbits. ::sigh:: I got myself presents for their birthday, because I know they would have wanted it that way.

First is this:

Yay!

And more important, I got the shoes. Yes, the shoes. The one's I've been looking at in the store window everyday for a month to and from my office building. I have a really hard time finding shoes that are comfortable. In my mind the only girl-shoes I want are the type of things the heroine of a 40's movie would wear at her secretary job (no damn pointy shoes!). Finally I found some--they are comfy and don't have pointed toes (which I can't stand) and I seem to actually be able to walk in the heels, which maybe look higher than they are. They are a mauve-suede color and black, but I may get a second pair in black.
Well, there's just no telling what will come from this.

More importantly for hobbit-kind, I just watched Lost! Spoilers inside with my thoughts. )
