In books 1-5 Hermione consistently shuts Harry and Ron down when the accuse Snape of being in league with the DEs. Fandom, seeing Hermione as the rational one, follows suite. The logic is that Dumbledore trusts Snape, therefore he [Snape] is not a bad guy, therefore he isn't prejudiced against muggles/muggleborns.
