Yes, I've learned to sort of just be aware of the things that are going to throw me out of the story, and to know that they might not throw someone else out of the story. Often if a character is so OOC it's ridiculous they don't have any character at all anyway. At that point the author is practically making up original characters, and plenty of fanfic authors are just bad at that.
As for Job or Prometheus... So far as their stories go, I'm with Prometheus. Job is a fool but letting God torture the crap out of him... but for all we know, Prometheus may now be in utter despair at what mankind has done with the fire that he stole for them.
