Well, of course not every Chinese uses proper pinyin--certainly most Cantonese speakers, like my ex-husband, don't, because pinyin looks the way Mandarin sounds.

I'm well aware that Chang is a common Chinese last name. It's 'Cho' that's the problem. So they called her 'Qiu' in China. That's because they actually gave her a Chinese name. But really, how do you get 'Cho' out of 'Qiu'?
