Oh--yes, I know what you mean. And often people are up front about that saying that they do expect different things from the "good guys" because those are the people you're supposed to be emulating. Which I guess makes a certain amount of sense. But of course you can have a hero who has major flaws. Readers can see those and recognize them as flaws while still admiring his better qualities.
