Argento movies are incredibly violent and gross. Gross gross gross. The Ravens naturally do not get through the film without doing something violent and gross (ever heard of the phrase "an eye for an eye?" Yeah...) but they're featured very heavily and they were the best part.
I would definitely want to start with Bukowski short stories. They quote one of his poems in the movie which was very good.
