When it first happened, a big part of me was glad, because I think that something this massive would *have* to have a significant impact on Harry's psyche, and maybe force him to view himself and the people around him in at least a slightly different way -- in effect, to grow up a little bit (I hardly expected it all to happen at once). Instead, he went further backwards.

It is really strange that there is so little impact beyond missing Quidditch. No introspection about nearly killing Draco. I'd think he would be horrified, both because of that and wondering "what if that was the spell I'd used on Ron?" And the other thing is where was Dumbledore? Granted he was gone frequently during HBP but he surely would have heard some rumor and ought to have at least discussed it with Harry.

I realize the books are titled Harry Potter and the... but I think it's a little unfortunate that time and again, Harry is shown that the world revolves around him. If Hogwarts were a real school Harry would have been expelled. Another example is Dumbledore explaining why Harry wasn't prefect. A teacher doesn't need to explain something like that and, if Harry had asked, Dumbledore should have said he didn't think Harry was the best one for the job.

I'm not sure how I stumbled across this journal but this is an interesting discussion!
