I know you read this a while back, but I think the train compartment scene really shows how it is between them. D/P Canon. (Scroll down to the HBP quotes with my opinions. *g*) I think it encompasses everything you mention, and JKR obviously thought it was important enough to show that people value Draco, even if Harry doesn't. Draco must have some good qualities that Harry knows nothing about, and that all Slytherins aren't the same.
(BTW, Pansy finds it quite amusing that Hermione hates her.)
