Two things:
First, on a logical level, the whole loyalty changing wands business is utter rubbish and it makes me wonder when she came up with the idea. I mean, it seems rather important for the denouement, so I'd have thought it was part of her overall plan from the beginning. But then why did she write 6 books contradicting it? Oh dear, logic...

See, and this is why I think it had more to do with her wanting/needing to dispose of Snape in a particularly ignoble way than anything having to do with her actual plot development from the last seventeen years.

To me, it is quite clear that this whole Elder Wand thing was tacked on and completely un-thought-out. The only thing that the Elder Wand BS really *did* for Jo was enable her to address the fact that she's never liked Shape and has always been horrified and uncomfortable that some of her readers did and make him look zomg nastee.

And it's a shame, too. Not only did she completely waste one of her best characters, but the whole Hallows thing, and particularly the Elder Wand thing, really could have been fantastic if she'd done it differently.
