Amusingly enough, I share more of my father's tastes than he would like. He's very happy I picked up TH White and Bach and the Prairie School and age of sail novels, but - let me put it this way. When my dad was little, he was infamous for having worn out a spot in the carpeting in front of the tv, watching mostly nerd sff. He also, according to my grandmother, wrote appalling adolescent science fiction. But when I was little, we had never had a tv, and I watched smuggled episodes of classic Star Trek in the dead of night with the volume all the way down, for fear of both the mocking and the concerned lectures I would receive from him for dabbling in low culture!
