I had a post I wanted to write in response to the D_D wank, but I feel like it's a little out of date now, especially with the even more recent wank. It wasn't really a direct response to the actual wank, but how it seems like this wasn't the first time in fandom where people seemed to be protesting the idea that understanding the history of a word is really part of understanding the word. Maybe I do have a little to say on it. )

I also saw a couple of movies recently. The Bourne Ultimatum was great, except I got stuck sitting so close to the screen in such an uncomfortable seat I was nauseous and had a headache when I left, which sucked. Honestly, it's not fair for theaters to charge for seats that are really useless. Usually sitting that close just means everything's going to be distorted and all the actors will have big chins, but in a movie with the camera style like TBU it's it becomes like flipping through microfiche in a library, which also gives me motion sickness.

I also saw a really funny old William Holden movie The Dark Past which wasn't a great movie but was a classic example of 40s Hollywood getting all excited about psychoanalysis. William Holden is a criminal who takes a family hostage while he waits at their hunting lodge for a ride. The man of the house is a pipe-smoking psychiatrist who completely cures Holden of his criminal tendencies by analyzing his conveniently symbolic recurring dream, which perfectly coincides with his conveniently strange and symbolic childhood patricidal memory. He also cures his psychosomatic hand paralysis, easy as pie!

Finally, there's Angel on my Shoulder about a criminal who dies and goes to hell, then makes a deal with the devil to change places with a judge whose reputation the devil wants to ruin. Unfortunately the guy winds up unintentionally foiling all the devil's plans and--surprise!--becoming a better man even if he still goes back to hell. Awwww. Redemption stories are so satisfying. *nudge nudge*

Oh! I almost forgot. I have only ever really posted at this journal, but I do have some others. I don't know whether I should cross-post anything. IF I did it would probably be to IJ or GJ. I just haven't made plans about moving or to where or when or whatever yet. But I made the other journals.
