I've been reading that "Things what I have eaten meme" but there's no point in me doing it--food is one of those areas where I've somehow never really felt the need to progress past the age of 8 or so. I remember once I was in some play or show or something and we had to run out and get lunch. I noticed this guy smirking at me when we came back and I was starting to eat. He said he'd never seen anybody over that age pack that sort of lunch for themselves and said he was just waiting to see if I took out a bottle of Yoo-Hoo to go with it. As it happened I had Hawaiian Punch which kind of might as well be Yoo-Hoo.

In other news, I have become a bit obsessed with Batman. )

Coming outside the cut for this last part because I’d really love have people chime in on this subject: There’s probably a great essay or paper to be written about how canon styles can shape fanfic. In Tolkien!fic it's the rural settings and description, in HP it's the whimsical magic and characters. In the Bat-verse it’s those wonderful *asterisks.* I can't think of any examples for Avatar or X-Files, though I haven't actually read that much fic in those so maybe I just don't know. Though it might also be significant that neither of those source materials are books. What's great is it's not copying somebody else--fanfic isn't about erasing your own style completely--it's just finding ways to use a tool the original canon has. Anyone else have examples of style crossover like that from other fandoms? FANFIC IS AWESOME.
