I just can't help but feel that Charles, who seems used to the idea of not being cared for, could be seeing his own crossroads here as well as Raven's. When she leaves with Erik she perhaps unwittingly shows herself as another benignly neglectful connection who can't be trusted with something as scary as a request for help.
