Well, I would not call him crazy. He's terribly high-strung like a thoroughbred. He is, in fact, a thoroughbred, isn't he? And for someone sensitive the stress he lives under must be really terrible. First there's his father with his constant demands of being better than everybody else and the family name he has to live up to. Then there's his rivality (rivalry?) with Harry. Feeling so deeply hurt by someone's rejection and having no means of getting back at them, and having your best-laid plans backfiring constantly, must be really painful. I think it would do him a world of good if he could win a Qidditch match just once. Then there's the political situation, and even if he's not fully informed, he must be aware that his father and his cronies are being driven into the back and that the forces he and his side perceive as evil are trying to take over for good. On the other hand the forces his father is allied with (Voldemort and the dementors) do not come over as terribly trustworthy either. So what shall he do? I really would not wish to be in his shoes. He has no one to turn to.
