Yes, that's exactly what gets so infuriating about it. I mean yes, there are times when people go overboard hating a character and you have to wonder why that is, but the easy reasons for why people dislike one character over another are so silly. Really, it's almost like admitting you have no argument against it, because if you did you could attack the argument and not the person!
