Just curious, haven't you ever had to warm up to a hobby, or started something thinking "well, this is interesting, but I'm not completely certain it's for me yet?" Most hobbies of which I am aware don't expect to sell the most expensive equipment to a beginner, but instead expect a hobbyist to move up in dedication as they grow into the hobby. I'm not sure writing is any different, at least, it wasn't for me. The first year was filled with delight that I was actually able to translate an idea into my head into a story on the page in a way that was interesting and mildly diverting for readers. The next year was spent playing with the idea of writing, and figuring out what I was and was not interested in writing. I'm part of a RL writing group now, and I'm submitting stories for critique in an effort to improve my writing-- but I didn't start out being instantaneously passionate enough or even remotely ready for that experience, I had to grow into it.
