I have a feeling everybody is drawing on different examples in this thread. I mean, when I think of somebody who isn't serious I think of people who are blatantly ignoring basic rules of grammar and not caring about anything but themselves. It wouldn't really occur to me to think of somebody who's just a beginner who might not be focused on being the best, but do care about their audience enough to want to be understood, if that makes sense.
