I went to see Spamalot tonight and loved it--there's not much to say except: Show Funny. People laugh. Hank Azaria and Tim Curry were both out--HA for a while, TC just tonight because that's my luck with these things. When the understudy King Arthur brought an audience member up on the stage he sheepishly told the man he "hoped he wasn't the President of the Tim Curry Fan Club."
A cool thing earlier was my mother and I were having dinner and the guy at the next table bought it for us! Just for no reason, although he seemed pretty happy with the lady he was with so maybe he was just spreading the love. When the waitress asked if he was sure he didn't want a sweet after dinner he said she was his sweet, always. I know, gag. Lucky I didn't make a face or he might not have paid for my dinner! Hurray!
My mother is halfway through her audio CD of HBP. You must understand that if this woman has one amazing talent it is the ability to get any name, no matter how simple, wrong. Sometimes she'll say a name correctly in the beginning of a sentence and change it to something else in the second half of a sentence just to impress you. Well, HP is just a bounty of names, all waiting to be mangled! So listening to her talk about it is like listening to some strange AU.
MotherMagpie:I've never liked Dobey.
SisterMagpie: Dobby?
MM: Yes, he reminds me of Golem from Lord of the Rings.
SM: Gollum. Dobby, not Kreacher, who belonged to Sirius?
MM: I thought Sirius was the Potions Teacher.
SM: That's Severus Snape.
MM: Oh. Those names are too much alike. Sirius was the one who was in Azbakan.
SM: Azkaban.
MM: What's wrong with poor Tonk?
SM: Tonks?
MM: She's pining away. I think she's in love with Bill Wurzley.
SM: Bill Weasley.
MM: Yes, but he's going to marry Femme.
SM: Fleur.
Later, in the Schubert Theater...
MM: So Tink isn't in love with Bill?
SM: giving up with the corrections Uh, no, Tink isn't in love with Bill.
MM: It's not Ron, is it?
SM: ...
MM: Who else is there? Not the vampire!
SM: The vampire?
MM: Yes, she must be in love with the Vampire. Lupus!
I refrained from telling her whether or not she was right, though I could make a case either way.
She thinks Tink is in love with Lupus the Vampire. Does that count as an accurate guess?

I will definitely try to remember to ask her about the book when she gets up to it. She only recently listened to OotP. She likes Neville a lot and thought he was the half-blood prince (which led to a confusing discussion on who is Pureblood and who is Muggleborn), and was dismayed by someone once asking if Neville's father was Peter Piper.

Your mother´s accidental AU is actually funnier and more imaginative than many fics out there. Please share more of her thoughts on HP, we could all use the funny. :D

Well, I shared with Adela her thoughts after OotP: she thought Neville was the Half-Blood Prince, did not know Hermione was Muggleborn, but did think Harry was a Muggleborn. She was disturbed by someone asking Rowling if Neville was the son of Peter Piper.

Could her synopsis of HBP possibly be an example of that there ... whatdayacallit ... "fuzzy logic" theory?
So... is "Spamalot" a musical retelling of "Holy Grail", or something else? REALLY want to see it. How much are tickets running these days?
