It'll be really interesting to see how these movies hold up. I think that's one of the things about Crash was that I appreciated a lot in it, but despite everything it was saying it just didn't stay with me as much. Where as, I think BBM does work without any sort of agenda. I don't think there's anything particularly dated about BBM (besides the actual time it takes place). Sure in the future it might not be at all remarkable that it's about a gay couple, but I think it would still stand as the study of this gay couple.

Yes! I've read a lot of comments saying BBM was overrated, saying it was merely (or mostly) its topic that got it so much attention/acclaim and that some years down the track we would all look back and realize just how overrated it was. Well, I don't know about other people but that is completely untrue in my case, and I hate it when people polarize things like that- especially when they think they know you better than you do!

Sometimes I even wonder if the hype BBM generated worked against it instead of for it, Oscar-wise. Though it's nice to know that straight men who were previously erked by all things gay are seeing the film (the ones I know are doing it mostly to "prove a point") and feeling impressed. Wouldn't have happened had BBM not been getting so much press time!
